Traditional masonry repairs…how interesting can lime mortar really be?


02/11/12      Fascinating, as it turns out! Just spent a really instructive two days at Penicuik House with Scottish Lime Centre Trust learning the basics about repairing traditional masonry and appropriate use of lime mortars. Well-run course with good teachers and a constant supply of fresh filter coffee…just about to book up for part two in February when it’ll be much warmer (aye, right). Makes you wonder why we don’t get taught these essentials at architecture school?

Together with the excellent Historic Scotland guidance and work that the Sustainable Traditional Building Alliance have identified needs tackling we’ve got a wealth of knowledge and experience that’s going to be of massive use if the country’s going to start seriously refurbishing traditional buildings…
